Anja Vedder as guest at the Bitkom Get Started start-up breakfast: What does the new government bring for start-ups?

On 24 February 2022, Anna Christmann, Member of the German Bundestag and BMWK Commissioner for the Digital Economy and Startups, Katharina Jünger, Co-Founder & CEO of Teleclinic, Fabian Wesemann, Co-Founder & CFO of Wefox Group Services and our founder Anja Vedder will come together for the joint BITKOM e.V. Startup Breakfast.

On the agenda for discussion and exchange between participants and guests this time, is the strategy of the new government with regard to the German startup ecosystem. The topic of startups has been on the agenda of the German Bundestag for quite some time, and with the change of government in September 2021, the topic will gain a new momentum.

In an international comparison, Germany as a start-up country performs moderately as usual. Bureaucratic hurdles, long start-up processes and a lack of financial support stand in the way of Germany’s attractiveness for founders and young companies.

But this is now coming to an end. In December 2021, the new government, consisting of the SPD, FDP and Gruene, signed a new coalition agreement in which it states with regard to start-ups in Germany: “Dare more progress”. Christian Lindner, parliamentary party leader of the FDP and Finance Minister in the Scholz government, promises to reduce the hurdles for start-ups in Germany. Lindner promised at the beginning of February 2022 that more funding would be made available especially for “scaling up” companies and start-ups in Germany.

These statements from the young Scholz government are positive – but what is behind this promising plan? What concrete measures is the traffic light coalition planning to improve financing opportunities for start-ups, reduce bureaucracy and promote diversity within the start-up scene?

Together with the guests at the start-up breakfast and all participants, these burning issues will be discussed and important voices from the grassroots will be captured.
