Case Study
Maximizing Chiller Energy Savings

ACE identified potential to cut cooling energy use by 23 % at a tech headquarter in Asia, saving SGD$100,000 annually and reducing 147 tonnes of CO2-eq. This can be achieved by transforming existing HVAC data into actionable insights using hybrid AI models.
The Challenge
A global tech manufacturer reached out to us for help with their 27,278 m² regional headquarters in Singapore, a facility that relies on three 500RT chillers to meet its cooling needs. Despite achieving the highest “Platinum” level under the Green Mark Certification Scheme, an internationally recognized standard for sustainable buildings in tropical climates, they struggled to pinpoint additional energy savings. While their Building Management System collected vast amounts of data, translating it into actionable insights for optimizing cooling efficiency remained a challenge. Traditional methods couldn’t address the complexities of their real-world operations, leaving significant energy-saving potential untapped.
The Solution
In order to identify this potential and to save additional energy, ACE was deployed. This cloud-based solution bridges the gap between existing data infrastructure and optimized HVAC performance. By employing hybrid AI models that combine the precision of physics-based models with the adaptability of machine learning, ACE delivers highly accurate predictions and actionable recommendations.
Two Key Features Deployed with ACE for Energy Optimization
1. Setpoint Advisor: ACE recommends optimal chiller setpoints to balance occupant comfort with energy efficiency. It incorporates in variables like occupancy, weather, and humidity, following ASHRAE 55 thermal comfort standards (blue section in image 1). By analyzing cooling load patterns and schedules, it provides a tailored cooling load ramp for productive and non-productive days comfort (see image 2).

2. Optimized Load Sharing: ACE analyzes real-time chiller efficiency data and dynamically distributes the cooling load among chillers and compressors. This ensures the most efficient units are prioritized to meet demand.
The Implementation
Using one year of historical data from the customer’s BMS system, our team of application engineers and data scientists tailored the hybrid AI model from our model library to reflect the building’s unique operational patterns. Integrating ACE with the existing BMS via API-based connectivity, enabling data exchange and precise control adjustments will enable the full deployment to extract the potential savings.
The Impact of ACE
Identified Potential Savings of:
Energy Savings per Year
with Setpoint Advisor
Energy Savings per Year
with Optimized Load Sharing
Total Annual Cost Savings
(Equivalent to ~66.000 EUR)
This case highlights the value of embracing advanced analytics and AI in HVAC. Even for buildings with high levels of sustainability certifications, ACE helps reach the full potential of existing HVAC systems. And, moreover, contribute to a more sustainable and cost-effective built environment. By bridging the gap between data and action, we help buildings achieve greater efficiency, lower costs, and reduced carbon footprints.
